The Herrick Library is a Consumer Health Library designed to provide health information to the residents of the Grossmont Healthcare District in East County San Diego. Services are free to library members and electronic databases can be accessed from your home or office if you register for a library card. The library’s collections emphasize consumer health materials for the lay public. Our mission is to help users access reliable health information. The library’s services are not intended to replace professional medical care and advice from your physician, dentist or health professional.

Facility and Service Information

Building: Library building is 4,590 sq ft. The Grossmont Healthcare Center is 11,080 sq ft.

Award: Received an Orchid Award in 2002 for excellence in the category of architecture.

Library Museum Exhibits: GHD Medical Memorabilia Collection Displays

Conference Room and two Study Rooms: Available for library members during open hours.
Computer Lab Workstations: 8 total- 2 MACs, 6 PCs, one with handicap capabilities.

Print Collection: Shelving capacity 4,500 materials (3,500 books, 500 videos, 100 journals, and 400 pamphlets).

Non-Print Collection: Digital library resources include the Library’s Catalog and Online Databases

Reference Services: Staff will assist users in finding and locating reliable health information on electronic databases and in the collection. Information packets can be requested via the telephone by residents of the Grossmont Healthcare District who may have difficulty traveling to the library. All of our resources are available for use by the public.

Training for online access: Staff will provide basic training on use of the systems and access to information. Instruction includes a brief overview and general guidance. Small group computer classes provide hands-on experience in the following areas: Internet Introduction, E-mail basics, Health Information Access, and Word Processing.
Health Care Fairs are planned to take place in the courtyard and in the library.
