The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region, was recently honored by the Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) with a 2005 Health Care District Special Achievement Award.
The award, one of three ACHD presented to a healthcare district at its recent annual meeting, recognized GHD for demonstrating vision and leadership with new innovative programs and policies and strategic partnerships that fulfilled its mission to recognize and meet the healthcare needs of uninsured and underserved East County residents. ACHD, a statewide trade and lobbying organization, represents more than 70 healthcare districts throughout the state.
GHD, a public agency formed in 1952, owns Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. Sharp HealthCare leases the hospital's operation under a 30-year lease that runs through the year 2021. Since 1996, GHD has awarded more than $20 million to local organizations that help support the health and well-being of East County residents.
With a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, GHD represents nearly 500,000 people who live within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County region. For more information about GHD, visit www.grossmonthealthcare.org.
