The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD)
board of directors has elected new officers for 2006.
Approved with unanimous 5-0 votes at a recent board meeting were Dr. John Hardebeck as president, Jim Stieringer as vice president and Bob Yarris as secretary. Board member Elizabeth Evans was selected to serve as treasurer by Hardebeck.
Hardebeck, a retired physician who was an original medical staff member at Grossmont Hospital when it opened in 1955, was appointed to the board in 2000 to serve the remaining term of the late Richard Bea. Hardebeck later won a seat in the November 2002 general election. The year 2006 will be his first year to serve as board president.
Hardebeck, who lives in San Carlos, succeeds Gloria Chadwick, who was the first woman to serve as GHD board president. Chadwick, a registered nurse and Dehesa resident, was elected to the board in 1998.
Stieringer, a consultant for a government defense contractor who also serves as the City of La Mesa's treasurer, was elected to the GHD board in 1992. The La Mesa resident has previously served as GHD board vice president in 1994 and 1995.
Yarris was elected to the board in 1992. The La Mesa resident has previously served as GHD board secretary in 1996, 2000-2002 and 2005. He works as director of the Regional Health Occupations Resource Center and director of the Welcome Back Program, International Health Worker Assistance Center at Grossmont College.
Evans, a registered nurse, is currently
serving her first four year-term.
The San Carlos resident was elected to the board in November 2004. The year
2006 will be her first year to serve as treasurer.
GHD board meetings are normally held on the third Friday of each month at the District Conference Center, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. The public is invited to attend.
The Grossmont Healthcare District,
formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital, encompasses 750 square
miles of San Diego's East County. Its five-member board of directors, each elected
to four-year terms, represent nearly 500,000 East County residents.
