The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a free public library in La Mesa that offers health-related resources and services to consumers, has completed a web-based training program that will improve access to free health information at seven public libraries in the East County, according to Judith Kammerer, Herrick library director.
The seven County of San Diego libraries are located in: Alpine, 2130 Arnold Way; Camp, 31466 Highway 94; Crest, 105 Juanita Lane; Descanso, 9445 River Dr.; Lakeside, 9839 Vine St.; Pine Valley, 28804 Old Highway 80; and Potrero, 24883 Potrero Valley Road.
Kammerer said the Herrick library received a grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, a federal government program, to provide special instruction to library officials at the seven rural libraries on the extent of information available at the Herrick library website, www.herricklibrary.org. The training program was called "Creating A Rural Network in the Grossmont Healthcare District."
"Information is good medicine and this program improved the public's access to free health information," Kammerer said. "Our goal is to enable consumers to make more informed decisions about their own health.
