News from Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, recently elected officers on its 2007 board of directors.

Re-elected as board president was Dr. John Hardebeck and Jim Stieringer will return as board vice president. Board member Gloria Chadwick was elected as board secretary. Board member Bob Yarris was selected by Hardebeck to serve as treasurer.

Hardebeck, a retired physician and San Carlos resident, was an original medical staff member at Grossmont Hospital when it opened in 1955. In 2000, he was appointed to serve the remaining term of the late Richard Bea. Hardebeck was then elected to four-year terms in the November 2002 and 2006 general elections. The year 2006 was his first year to serve as board president.

Stieringer, a La Mesa resident, is a consultant for a government defense contractor. He was elected to the GHD board in 1992.

Chadwick, a Dehesa resident and registered nurse, has served on the board since 1998, when she became the first woman to be elected to the board in 22 years. Chadwick also won relection to another four-year term in the November 2006 general election.

Yarris, a resident of La Mesa, was elected to the board in 1992. He works as director of the Regional Health Occupations Resource Center, and director of the San Diego Welcome Back Center, an international healthcare worker assistance program.

GHD board meetings are normally held on the third Friday of each month at the District Conference Center, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. The public is invited to attend.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital, encompasses 750 square miles of San Diego's East County. Its five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, represent nearly 500,000 East County residents.
