News from the Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, was recently presented with the 2007 Visionary Award by the Home of Guiding Hands (HGH), an El Cajon-based non-profit organization that provides quality residential support and training to people with developmental disabilities.

Dr. John Hardebeck, 2007 president of the GHD board of directors, accepted the award on behalf of the District at HGH’s annual Heart & Hall Ball. The award was based on the District’s support of programs and services that benefit local residents with mental retardation and related disabilities, according to Carol Fitzgibbons, HGH executive director. She said GHD has supported HGH with grants and sponsorships totaling more than $500,000 over the past 10 years.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, formed in 1952, serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
