News from the Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has unanimously approved a $10,000 grant to Cuyamaca Community College to purchase computer hardware and software and to develop instructional content for visually impaired, hearing impaired and learning disabled students.

GHD said its grant will serve about 75 disabled students who need large screen monitors to view websites, amplified audio systems to hear classroom lectures or word processors and scanners that allow written lecture notes to be heard audibly. In addition, GHD funds will help the college obtain special software that converts math into Braille.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency in San Diego's East County region, supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region and serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District, formed in 1952, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
