News from the Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has unanimously approved a $15,000 grant to the Grossmont Health Occupations Center (HOC) to supplement the salaries of two instructors who teach in the nurse refresher-and-reentry program offered through Grossmont Adult School.

HOC said it offers 15-week courses to assist registered and licensed vocational nurses who want to re-enter California's healthcare workforce, or who need an update of nursing knowledge and skills in an acute care setting. About 25 individuals a year enroll in the nursing classes, according to the HOC.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency in San Diego's East County region, supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region and serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District, formed in 1952, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
