News from the Grossmont Healthcare District
The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is seeking nominations for its 2008 Healthcare Hero Awards, which is the GHD’s annual awards program that honors East County residents who help advance the delivery of quality healthcare in the East County. Nomination forms in English and Spanish are available at www.grossmonthealthcare.org. Deadline for submission of entries is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4 at the GHD offices.
Nominees for a 2008 Healthcare Hero Award can include front-line volunteer caregivers, volunteers at community clinics, junior volunteers, auxiliary members, healthcare educators, pastoral care providers and individual members of service clubs who volunteer beyond their scope of work, as well as first-responders and employees of healthcare organizations who volunteer their time beyond their regular job responsibilities, according to Jim Stieringer, GHD 2008 board president.
“We solicit the assistance of all East County residents because we want to recognize those unsung heroes of healthcare whose work might not otherwise be recognized,” said Stieringer. “We want to honor those volunteers whose extraordinary care and selfless dedication inspires others to produce measurable outcomes that provide for a healthy East County community.”

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency in San Diego's East County region, supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region and serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District, formed in 1952, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
